I am Miss Watkins and I am the Design and Technology lead at Clockhouse. I love inspiring children to be creators of the future, and to realise that every invention has started somewhere, no matter how big or how small. I want children to understand that everything they know was once someone’s idea, and that person worked hard to bring it to life.
At Clockhouse Primary School, our Design and Technology curriculum is all about inspiring children to become creative thinkers, problem-solvers, and future innovators. We want children to love not just the making of things, but also to understand the full design and manufacturing journey – how things are made, why they are made, and who they are made for. Through hands-on projects, pupils explore a wide range of materials, tools, and techniques. They learn about structures, mechanisms, textiles, electronics and more, helping them to develop their own unique designs and products with a clear purpose. Children are encouraged to reflect on what works well, and make improvements – building confidence, resilience and pride in their achievements.
Cooking and Nutrition is a vital life skill and a key aspect of our Design and Technology curriculum. Pupils learn where food comes from, how to cook with fresh ingredients, and how to make healthy food choices.
In Design and Technology at Clockhouse we make all kinds of things. This includes making pencil cases, designing and baking our own bread recipes and building bird houses!
